Passport Prices to Rise Again – 25% Increase in Just Two Years

London, UK – March 20, 2025 – British travellers will soon have to pay even more for their passports as the UK government announces another price hike. This latest increase means that passport costs will have risen by an astonishing 25% in just two years, sparking frustration among citizens.

From April 11, 2025, the price of a standard adult passport will rise from £82.50 to £95.00, an increase of over 15%. The cost of a child’s passport will also jump from £53.50 to £58.50. This follows a previous increase in 2023 when passport fees were raised significantly after remaining unchanged for five years.

The Home Office justified the hike by citing the need to cover the costs of passport processing, security features, and international travel administration. A spokesperson stated, “The new fees will help ensure the continued efficiency and security of the UK passport service while reducing reliance on taxpayer funding.”

However, critics argue that the latest rise is excessive and comes at a time when household budgets are already strained by the cost-of-living crisis. Travel industry experts also warn that the higher costs could discourage some families from renewing their passports, impacting tourism and travel plans.

The new prices apply to both online and postal applications, with postal applications continuing to be more expensive. Fast-track and premium service fees are also expected to rise, making urgent passport applications even more costly.

For those planning to renew their passports soon, experts recommend submitting applications before the new fees take effect to avoid the higher costs.
