
Overnight Israeli air strikes in northern Gaza reportedly killed at least 48 Palestinians, according to a local hospital. The Indonesian hospital stated that the fatalities included 22 children and 15 women, following strikes on several homes in Jabalia town and refugee camp. Online video purportedly showed numerous bodies at the scene.
The Israeli military has stated it is reviewing these reports. They had issued evacuation warnings for residents of Jabalia and adjacent areas on Tuesday night after a Palestinian armed group launched rockets into Israel
These events unfolded as the UN’s humanitarian affairs chief urged the UN Security Council to act to “prevent genocide” in Gaza. Speaking in New York on Tuesday, Tom Fletcher accused Israel of “deliberately and unashamedly imposing inhumane conditions on civilians.” He called for an end to Israel’s 10-week blockade on Gaza and criticized the Israeli-US plan regarding the distribution of humanitarian aid in the territory.

On Tuesday, a significant Israeli air strike on the European hospital’s compound in southern Gaza reportedly killed at least 28 people, according to local officials. Israeli media sources indicated that the target was Mohammed Sinwar, believed to have become the leader of Hamas in Gaza after his brother Yahya was killed by Israeli forces last October. The Israeli military described the strike as “a precise strike on Hamas terrorists who were operating in a command-and-control centre” beneath the hospital.
The Israeli military initiated its campaign to dismantle Hamas following an unprecedented cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage. According to the Hamas-run health ministry in the territory, at least 52,908 people have been killed in Gaza since then.
