Hasan Nawaz Smashes Historic Debut Century as Pakistan Crush New Zealand in 3rd T20

Karachi, March 22, 2025 – In a stunning display of batting brilliance, Hasan Nawaz made an unforgettable debut for Pakistan, smashing a historic century to lead his side to a dominant victory over New Zealand in the third T20I at the National Stadium.

The 21-year-old left-handed batter, playing in only his first match for the national team, demonstrated exceptional skill and power, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off just 56 balls. His century, the first-ever in a debut T20I innings for Pakistan, included 11 boundaries and 6 towering sixes. Nawaz’s rapid-fire knock played a crucial role in setting a formidable target of 198 runs for the Kiwis.

Pakistan’s innings was powered by Nawaz’s explosive hitting, but also saw solid contributions from veteran players, with skipper Babar Azam adding 45 runs and Mohammad Rizwan chipping in with a quick-fire 35. With their backs against the wall, New Zealand struggled to get a foothold in the match, as Pakistan’s total proved too daunting.

In reply, New Zealand’s chase never gained momentum. Their top-order crumbled under the pressure of Pakistan’s pace attack, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, who took 3 wickets for just 22 runs. Although Glenn Phillips fought valiantly with a knock of 42, it was not enough to threaten Pakistan’s supremacy. New Zealand were eventually dismissed for 146 in 17.3 overs, handing Pakistan a comprehensive 51-run victory.

Speaking after the match, a jubilant Hasan Nawaz said, “It’s a dream come true to make my debut for Pakistan and to contribute to such a memorable win. The team has been incredible in supporting me, and I’m just happy to be part of this victory.”

Pakistan’s emphatic win in the third T20 gives them a 2-1 lead in the five-match series, with the final two games set to be played in Lahore. New Zealand will now have to regroup quickly as they aim to level the series in the upcoming fixtures.

Chapman took charge after New Zealand was asked to bat, blasting 11 fours and four sixes off just 44 balls.

The rest of the New Zealand batting lineup struggled to find their rhythm, with captain Michael Bracewell being the only other notable contributor, scoring 31 runs.

Pakistan’s experienced seamer, Haris Rauf, made an impact by dismissing Bracewell and finishing with the best figures for Pakistan, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs.

The fourth game of the five-match series will take place in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
