Morrisons to Close Cafes, Meat Counters, and Convenience Stores, Putting Hundreds of Jobs at Risk

Morrisons has announced the closure of several in-store services, putting approximately 365 jobs at risk across the UK. The supermarket chain will shut down 52 cafes, all 18 Market Kitchen food-to-go sites, 17 convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters, and four pharmacies over the coming months.

The company cited operational costs that no longer align with customer demand as the reason for the closures. Despite shutting down dozens of cafes, Morrisons stated that most of its café locations remain viable and have a “bright future.” In some areas, it plans to collaborate with third-party vendors to offer specialized services.

Convenience stores closing:

  • Woking, Westfield Road
  • Exeter, Sidwell Street
  • Bath, Moorland Road
  • And more…

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) has pledged to support affected employees, prioritizing job retention within the company. Morrisons has indicated that some staff will be redeployed to other roles within the business.
