Trump says he will impose 25% tariffs on steel and Aluminum imports to US
Donald Trump has announced plans to introduce a new round of tariffs this week, including a 25% levy on all steel and aluminum imports.
The U.S. president also stated his intention to implement “reciprocal tariffs” on countries that currently impose taxes on American imports, though he did not specify which nations would be affected or if any exemptions would be granted.
Canada and Mexico, two of the U.S.’s largest steel trading partners, could be impacted, with Canada being the top supplier of aluminum to the U.S. Canadian officials have warned that the tariffs could harm their economy, while Australia has cautioned that thousands of American jobs could be at risk if the plan proceeds.
This move represents a further escalation of Trump’s trade policies, which have already led to retaliatory measures from China—Beijing’s tariffs on certain U.S. exports officially took effect today.
