Christopher John Rogers: The Bold Visionary Redefining American Fashion
Christopher John Rogers, the 32-year-old fashion designer from Louisiana, is quickly becoming a defining force in American fashion. Known for his vibrant, bold designs and masterful tailoring, Rogers has captured the attention of style icons like Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, and Anne Hathaway. His signature motifs—think oversized, Skittle-colored dots adorning jackets and corsets—have become a symbol of his fearless approach to fashion.
Rogers, a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, is making waves by challenging the norms of “quiet luxury.” Instead of muted tones and understated elegance, his designs embrace shimmering rose gold Italian wool trousers, bold cartoon-red cocktail dresses, and unexpected pops of color like lilac, rosemary green, and flamingo pink. Alongside his longtime business partner Christina Ripley, Rogers is redefining what it means to dress with joy and confidence.
Breaking Hierarchies and Building Hope

Backstage at his New York Fashion Week show, held in a former fish factory in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard, Rogers shared his vision. “I’m trying to flatten some hierarchies with my designs,” he said. “How can we help more people feel like they belong, but also like it’s okay to stand out?”
For Rogers, fashion is more than just clothing—it’s a tool for hope. “American fashion right now is in a state of flux,” he explained. “We want newness; we want transformation. But we have to be willing to try some fresh approaches. We have to make people excited to get dressed again, even if you’re just wearing them to go down the street for coffee.”
A Rising Star with a Southern Perspective

Rogers’s journey to success began seven years ago in a tiny Chinatown studio in Manhattan. To fund his first collection, he waited tables to afford luxurious fabrics. His hard work paid off, earning him roles with designers like Rosie Assoulin, Jonathan Saunders, and Diane von Furstenberg. In 2019, he won the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Award, followed by the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award in 2021, beating industry giants like Marc Jacobs and Gabriela Hearst.
What sets Rogers apart is his ability to infuse his Southern roots into his designs. His reinterpretation of Southern motifs—like a plaid fuchsia dress with a bell-shaped silhouette inspired by hoop skirts—has even earned a place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection.
Strong, Joyful, and Accessible

Rogers’s designs are celebrated for their elegance, boldness, and accessibility. His candy-colored knitwear and spangled sweater dresses became pandemic-era favorites for stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna. In 2023, he collaborated with J Crew, offering 40 pieces for adults and eight for children, all with extended sizing to ensure inclusivity.
Nikki Ogunnaike, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, praises Rogers for his ability to connect with shoppers outside of fashion hubs like New York and Los Angeles. “We haven’t really had a Black American fashion designer who comes from the American South and uses that culture to shape his point of view in such a strong, joyful, accessible way,” she said.
A Cultural Force

Rogers’s designs are more than just clothes—they’re a celebration of individuality and joy. Actress Keke Palmer, who attended his NYFW show in a white peplum gown and blue feathered coat, summed it up perfectly: “It’s glamorous! And current. He’s now.”
With his bold colors, impeccable tailoring, and commitment to inclusivity, Christopher John Rogers is not just shaping the future of American fashion—he’s making it a more vibrant, hopeful, and exciting place for everyone.
